Here's a great image showcasing ALL of the characters associated within the Godzilla Unleashed video game.

One of my favorite aspects remains the myriad of playable characters...including 3 DIFFERENT versions of Godzilla himself.

How cool was it to play Godzilla from three different eras!

While the newer monsters created exclusively for the game (and approved by Toho) were kind of lame, playing most of the others was great.

The only loss remains Hedorah!!!

Apparently his characteristics were too complex for the video game so he was scrapped all together.

Godzilla's demise will be at Washburn

In Topeka, Kansas this upcoming Saturday?

Well you're in luck (a bittersweet luck of sorts) as the final Godzilla event will occur at Washburn University.

Apparently the University's been holding an annual event called the "Godzilla & Friends Film Festival" where they screen Godzilla films from night until morning!

("Why exactly wasn't I aware of this before?" is the question I immediately ask myself).

They even include a Godzilla roar contest where the person with the best roar wins something very good!

How amazing is that!

I wish something like this was held at the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin, no doubt it would prove to be a very popular item.

The Avengers: 5 Movies That Destroyed New York Before Loki

With The Avengers seemingly destroying every kind of box office record there is...and involving destroying New York City itself...whatculture.com has created their own list of the Top 5 movies that destroyed New York!

Coming in at number 2 is the 1998 Godzilla movie, which they have to state the following about:

"In 1998 the scourge of Japan made its way to American shores and massively underwhelmed at the box office. Be that as it may the import from the Orient managed to destroy everything in it’s wake, including key locations across the Big Apple like Madison Square Garden, as it rampaged through the city in search of the perfect nesting sight for it’s young. Much like it’s monkey predecessor Godzilla met it’s demise at the hands of the US army and its aircraft but one of it’s offspring managed to survive setting up a sequel that never ever came."

Of course this is nothing we haven't really seen before, but I still recommend checking out the article as the rest of the Top 5 movies chosen were very inspiring.

Godzilla Video of the Day

Here's a pretty decent video review of the Godzilla Game Boy game many wonder why it even involved him in the first place..."Godzilla".

I've never played the game myself, but in looking at the video it's clear to see why it received so much criticism.

It's basically Donkey Kong swapped with Godzilla pixels!

Not even the gameplay itself seems that interesting.

I know that the older Game Boy models had their limitations...but still...if a great Zelda game could be made utilizing the same format then this game had no excuse.

Brad Bird's Next Film is the Super-Secret '1952'

Brad Bird of The Incredibles, The Iron Giant and Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol has a project coming up soon, and it's titled "1952".

Why does this make it into my Godzilla column you ask?

Because the project remains both VERY mysterious and VERY secretive, something that has fueled internet speculation as to the nature of the movie.

Craveonline.com is one of these speculators, and they've come up with all of the important dates that occurred within the year 1952.

Chief among them is that on November 1st the first hydrogen bomb was tested in the central Pacific Ocean, which they speculate could be Disney trying to create their own Godzilla franchise of sorts. 

Conjecture? Rampant speculation? The truth?

It's all too early to tell, but it wouldn't surprise me if Disney/Bird go this route considering the popular nature of kaiju movies these days.

"Godzilla" on the fastest to $100 million list

With all the recent talk of "The Avengers" earning (domestically) over $100 million in just two days, Boxofficemojo.com has compiled a list of other movies reaching this milestone.

In looking through the entire list, it was surprising to see 1998's "Godzilla" make it within the top 150.

All criticisms aside, people forget that this movie had some good success near the beginning.

Sure it didn't have the "legs" that most blockbusters have (i.e. the ability to last many weeks within theaters) but it still had a pretty strong debut.

According to boxofficemojo.com it made it to the $100 million within 14 days, not bad considering these are 1998 dollars we're talking about.
