Godzilla Image of the Day

What an incredible image.

I wish I could provide credit for this picture but unfortunately I couldn't find any.

Some true Godzilla fan painstakingly took the time to capture dozens of Godzilla images throughout the entire franchise.

Essentially it's a montage of Godzilla over the years!

What's fascinating is how many variations of the Godzilla costume this image showcases.

Nothing too dramatic was ever done between each costume, but one can clearly see the little tweaks made to his eyes, mouth, ears, forehead, etc., within each movie.

Of course the Godzilla 1998 model is not included, but that involves a complete reimagining rather than just some slight alteration.

Godzilla 1994: The Lost Script

I've spent so much earlier time talking about the never-made "Godzilla 1994" film (see here for some good links) that I just realized something...

...I never made a reference point to the actual script/treatment for this lost film.

As such I've included a link that showcases the treatment in all of its glory.

If you don't know what a treatment is, essentially it's a mini-novel that highlights actions happening within a scene. If it's made the right way it creates a "theater of the mind" trick, where you're watching the movie unfold in your head.

Godzilla 1994 Script/Treatment

More new info about the lawsuit against Toho Studios

Some more info has come to light regarding the recent copyright lawsuit against Toho Studios from the Honda estate.

(For my original analysis on this go here).

Godzilla historian Ed Godzisewski went and obtained some history regarding this suit, and here's what he had to say about this:

"Yes, there is a legal case ongoing in Japan. Has been for a while. I have heard about the case from Ryuji for a couple years. The family has preferred to just quietly pursue the case the way it should be done, in court. It all stems from the Japanese system that gives rights to writers (not directors).

The first ruling is due in February."

What's interesting is a) how the copyright system seems to work in Japan, and b) how the people there publicly handle such items.

Apparently the copyright system is skewed more towards writers rather than producers and directors, which denotes giving credit to the original source.

Also it's amazing how such a lawsuit remained relatively quiet until bleedingcool.com posted it on their website.

It seems like within the Japanese culture such legal wrangling is always kept shut behind closed legal doors.

It's not like here in America where every lawyer/client would be talking to TV and radio stations, all while performing Internet interviews throughout the web.

On a last note the final decision should come very soon, so by February we'll know the verdict on this very interesting situation.

Weird Godzilla Toy...part 18

What you're looking at is the "Kewpie Godzilla" trinket, one specifically designed to add to your keyring/cell phone as a charm.

...boy does that toy look weird.

Very cute, but weird...and creepy.

In what possible way could this concept have ever worked. How can a little plastic baby, a charm trinket dressed as Godzilla, ever be in demand.

Now I can see a  baby Godzilla-costume as being a hot item.

What Godzilla fan/parent wouldn't love to dress their baby as Godzilla, complete with the cute little tail and cotton spikes on the back.

I'm certain such a thing would be all the rage at comic cons.

But this...I don't know.

Plus the toy here is very small (less than a finger) so they could easily be lost or misplaced.

Godzilla Image of the Day

I love love love love this scene within the Godzilla 2000 film.

It's a scene early in the film when the Godzilla Prediction Network (essentially the father and his daughter) are chasing after Godzilla during one of his rampages.

The scene goes to this shot where Godzilla is moving in the far background...and what I love here is how the King of Monsters is presented.

If you've ever seen Tornado videos...the most common attribute is that the person filming the event is far away from what's happening.

They have to be as due to the massive size and destruction of the tornados anyone closeby risks oncoming danger.

THIS scene perfectly encapsulates what Godzilla is...a giant force of nature.

He is not something that can be controlled or even contained. Rather people have to ensure that they get out of his way as he does his thing and then leaves.

I truly hope that a scene like this is within the future Godzilla movie from Legendary Pictures and Co., as it will be delightful for American audiences to perceive this too.

Godzilla: Legends #3 info

Well it looks like people just can't get enough of Titanosaurus.

Freshly appearing from issue 11 of the Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters series (at least cover-wise), Titanosaurus is now given his own one-shot here.

I think what makes him so appealing, even after appearing in just two Godzilla movies, is his very unique look.

He's like the concept of a unicorn...no other kaiju even comes close to looking like him.

Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters #11 info

IDW is now soliciting info on the latest issue from the Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters series.

Issue #11 comes with the following synopsis:

The twins are back, and they are after the King of Monsters himself! Riding into America on the backs of Battra and Rodan, the evil twins head toward Godzilla in an attempt to enslave the gargantuan to their will. But they may be underestimating the true power of Godzilla… get ready for a battle of titans in Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #11!

Interesting that the twin girls are back.

I had heard complaints that it seemed like the series had dropped them altogether, but this confirms that their saga is still ongoing.

Plus everything continues with new writer Jason Ciaramella, so overall this will be an interesting issue to read.

As always artist Matt Frank provides a fantastic cover, this one depicting rarely used Godzilla-villain Titanosaurus.
