Yes that is actually Godzilla and MechaGodzilla as newsreporters on a Japanese show!

Apparently there was this kids show some years ago that featured Godzilla cartoons mixed in with live-action sequences.

Part of these segments involved a news report!

James Stokoe tackles giant monsters in "Godzilla: The Half-Century War"

Comicbookresources.com has a more in-depth article on the upcoming IDW Godzilla series "Godzilla: The Half-Century War". 

From what things sound like...it'll certainly be a far reaching series.

MUCH broader than I had anticipated.

Here's a direct quote from the article and the interview with writer/artist James Stokoe:

"Stokoe's lifelong interest in all things Godzilla comes in handy for "The Half-Century War," which, as the title indicates, spans five decades of Godzilla history. It stars Lieutenant Ota Murakami, who encounters Godzilla during his first attack and develops an obsession with the creature that lasts for the next 50 years. "Ota starts out the series as a tank commander in the Japan Self-Defense Forces during Godzilla's initial 1954 attack on Tokyo," Stokoe said. "He develops a rather peculiar sense of awe and devotion over this giant destructive lizard that's burning everything around him.""

Sounds really cool...as we should see Godzilla represented in his various modes throughout several decades.

There's even a blurb where James mentions his affinity for Godzilla 1985, so there's no doubt in my mind that this specific Godzilla representation will at least encompass one issue.

"Monsters" Director Gareth Edwards working on Sci-Fi Project "Forever"

Wow Gareth what are you doing?

Besides working on "Godzilla" (work that seems to be taking a really long time now) and producing the soon-to-be-filmed sequel to Monsters...now comes word of his work on yet a third project.

I had originaly talked about this project last year (see the original article here), the difference being that things seem to really be moving forward now.

So for those keeping track that's three projects Gareth will simultaneously work on...while still delivering what is intended to be top-notch work on Godzilla.

I don't know...I'm wary of himself spreading things too thin between these multiple projects.

Here's more word on the project I'm talking about:

"According to /Film, ‘Forever’ is being pitched as “a robot ‘Star Wars’ about a young human child (probably around 5 years old) and a robot who travel across the galaxy in search of mankind’s origin in a world void of humanity and filled with robots.” 

No word yet on what role Gareth has...but presumably it's as the director.

Prometheus & 15 Other Movies That Didn’t Live Up To The Hype

With Prometheus now having come and (almost) gone from theaters, reaction to the movie has been iffy at best.

Personally I haven't seen it yet, as I'm finally going to this weekend.

(I usually wait for movies to die down before checking them out, as I absolutely hate hate hate huge crowds at a theater. Huge crowds are a perfect recipe for movie-watching disaster, as I've learned my lesson early on in life).

In any case the main consensus seems to be that the film had potential...it just seemed to set everything up for the sequel rather than actually explaining things throughout the film.

Again I haven't seen it yet so my verdict remains up in the air...but in any case whatculture.com has a column on past movies with the same situation.

1998's Godzilla falls into this category at number 11, and here's what they have to state about the film:

"As a kid, when I first saw the trailer for Roland Emmerich’s re-imagining of the classic lizard, I counted the days till I could witness Godzilla in all it’s CGI glory. It looked like Jurassic Park, but BIGGER!!! Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear indeed…Bad acting, bad direction, and an even worse script, and then before it could get any worse, those damn baby Godzilla raptor-Jurassic Park- ripoff things showed up. For the love of God. The only film where I’ve rooted for the monster to win. Destroy the whole thing, crush everybody, please!"
