Outside the Box: 10 Works of Art Inspired By Super Mario Bros.

Pixelatedgeek.com has a fantastic article showcasing some works produced around Super Mario Bros..

Just look at the preview image I've included!

Is this not the coolest thing ever!

My hat's off to the talented folks who did this, and here's hoping they decide to take on other legendary video game franchises!

Here's the link if you'd like to see the rest of these pictures:

Godzilla # 2 Rankings

Fresh from its posting are the latest sales figures for Godzilla # 2.

Last time issue #1 had debuted at 175th place with 11,994 issues sold.

So did issue #2 rise or fall?

Well it dropped only one spot to 176th place...but the issues sold declined by around 20% to 9,753!

Not really a steep decline...but it's pretty close nonetheless.

As a reminder these sales figures come not from issues sold to customers but rather issues purchased by comic book vendors.

It'll be interesting to see then how issue #3 plays out!

Outside the Box: New Punisher short-film!

For you Punisher fans out there you're in for a treat!

Fresh from his SDCC surprise is Thomas Jane reprising his Punisher role for a new short-film!

Thomas Jane was of course in the 2004 film that almost spawned a franchise...except for the fact that Tom was really disillusioned about the potential sequel and dropped out ahead of time.

(For his full response on this matter check out my video here, which was from a comic con panel that I attended last year).

In any case here's what Tom has to say about why he redid his character for this short-film:

"I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It's been a blast to be a part of from start to finish -- we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it." -- Thomas Jane

Great stuff!

Why A New GODZILLA Film Is Necessary

Destroyer14 is at it again!

Just released in lieu of the big SDCC announcement, Destroyer14 provides some very valid points as to why a new Godzilla film is necessary.

One of my favorite points remains this:

"When people think of Godzilla, they think of "The guy who directed Independence Day directed it, right?" "That giant iguana with the Jurassic Park raptor spawn." That's how they know him, from a lackluster film with a monster that could be defeated by conventional means."

Amen Destroyer14, I strongly believe this is why a new Godzilla film was warranted.

Toho didn't want that film to forever stain their history, so they probably agreed to a second chance only after enough time has passed.

And considering the response that audiences gave at SDCC...it looks like the time is just right!

Godzilla Movie News: Godzilla 2012 SDCC poster and teaser analysis!

Here I go over what was presented at SDCC 2012, with an analysis over the new Godzilla poster and teaser!

Here's the full teaser description by the way, courtesy of aintitcool.com.

"We just got the Legendary logo against a plume of black smoke… the camera floats over a devastated city… It’s not big Roland Emmerich devastation, more like Neill Blomkamp heavy reality devastation. Buildings are tumbled, fires have broken out, busses squashed and a skyscraper with a huge hole in the middle of it.

The camera keeps moving and then we see something not very real world at all… A huge creature… segmented shell, multiple arms ending in claw and dead, dead, dead. Flies buzz around it and from a long way away we hear Godzilla’s iconic roar.

Cut to the title, which is exactly the font of that teaser poster. But then the big hero shot: huge hazy plume of smoke and dust as something moves inside… we see a clawed hand, camera tilts up as the big creature turns, his back scales causing shafts of godlight to filter through the haze (and these back scales are not spruced up… jagged, sharp… totally Godzilla) as the head turns in profile, letting out a roar."

Sounds fantastic!
